| There will be dew on the swaths in a few hours. But the stubble will hold them up and let them dry out. This method works amazingly well. Nature's dryer. |
| | When I walk the countryside of southern Alberta, all along the foothills for that matter, I realize that there is something bigger than what's immediately visible. The underlying spirit, the wildness, the gently swaying grasses of the evening breezes, the smell. I can hear many things that are misunderstood because they're not recognized for what they are. The wind in the trees becomes the whispers of lovers; the songs of the meadowlark and the prairie bluebird singing simply because they can; the honking sounds of geese passing overhead on their way south; and the smell of freshly swathed fields.I've walked fields like this so many times I can't remember. We used to stop the car and, sketch boxes and lunch in hand, hike across to a site that looked interesting. We'd sometimes spend the rest of the afternoon and evening there, often walking back in the dark. Many places I just felt like staying, they were so quiet and peaceful. Nature has a way of winning you over completely if you give her a chance. |
