If you seek gentleness
in this world
ignore not the coarseness
of some individuals.
An honest coarseness
is often more gentle
than gentleness
paraded as a virtue.

| Who could ever guess that such a rough and wind torn old tree would gain so much character. I remember an old fisherman upcoast that I painted many years ago that impressed me in the same way. There are no dull monents in the company of such things. The wind and this tree talked many times over the years, confided many secrets, sent many on their way like notes in a bottle. If I could only jot some of them down for others to read I would. Alas, we are left with the sound of wind in the trees, a language many do not understand is a language, but which speaks volumes to those that do.
