The Haida dug-out canoe off the Queen Charlotte Islands on a warm, hazy afternoon. Reference was supplied by the reference department of the Vancouver Central Library and the BC Museum of Anthropology.

Nowhere in the world can be found a more beautiful and practical craft as the Haida dugout canoe. These magnificent cedar canoes are native to the western portion of British Columbia. The Haida canoes were made with high prows for use in open water. Varying greatly in length, they were made for the purpose at hand, from native materials and decorated with Haida designs.
